The pelvic floor is a fundamental structure for your daily well-being.

Imagine it as a hammock that starts from the pubis and ends in the lower back.

Why is the pelvic floor so important?

The weaves that make up the fabric of your hammock are the bands and muscles, the ropes that keep it suspended to the bones are the ligaments. Like a real hammock, the perineum cradles and supports the internal organs, responding to the body's needs such as continence, posture maintenance, sexual functionality, and reproductive functionality

If something is not working as it should, you might experience symptoms such as:

  • Involuntary loss of urine, gas, or feces
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Sensation of heaviness in the vagina
  • Constipation, frequent hemorrhoids and/or anal fissures
  • Constant pain or discomfort in the vulva or while sitting, wearing jeans, wearing a swimsuit, playing sports, etc.
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm or experiencing sexual pleasure
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Recurring infections like candida or cystitis
  • Pain during menstruation

If you find yourself in one or more of these situations, the pelvic floor evaluation is the first step to understanding the state of your perineal health and identifying the most suitable path for you. Even if none of the situations on the list reflect you, I still recommend having an evaluation at least once in your life. Taking care of this part of the body means increasing your awareness and investing in prevention.

After all, whatever your age, staying healthy is always better than having to make up for it, right?

Phase 2. Objective examination and functional assessment
After obtaining your consent (have they ever asked you: “May I?”, before touching any part of your body?), we will proceed to the physical assessment, which includes:

  • Observation and vaginal examination to assess pelvic floor health
  • Analysis of muscle tone and the presence of contractures or weaknesses
  • Specific tests to assess the functionality of the perineal muscles
  • Observation of posture and pelvic mobility
  • Breathing analysis to identify any diaphragmatic stiffness that may affect pelvic floor functionality
  • Possible assessment of the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles (suspected diastasis) through visual and digital analysis
  • Possible assessment of scars, stiffness, or painful extra-pelvic areas

Don't worry: the examination is conducted with the utmost respect for your comfort and only with your consent. Also, no “gynecologist” tables with those uncomfortable leg supports!

Here, comfort and respect for your well-being come first, so I will ask you to lie down on a simple massage table, in a natural and comfortable position.

How is the evaluation conducted?

The first thing you need to know is that we need TIME, there is no rush here. The evaluation is an in-depth visit, designed to give you the listening and attention you deserve. It can last up to 2 hours and is structured in different phases, to thoroughly explore your situation and provide you with a clear and personalized picture.

Phase 1. Initial interview and anamnesis collection
We start with an in-depth conversation to understand the reason that led you to book the evaluation: whether it is a specific problem you want to solve or simply the desire to improve your well-being. We will analyze different aspects of your life to have a complete view of your perineal health:

  • Your lifestyle, work, and physical activity
  • Your eating and hydration habits
  • Your general health status and any use of medications or supplements
  • Your bladder functionality and intestinal well-being, as well as your habits
  • Your gynecological and obstetric history
  • Your emotional-sexual life and how you perceive your intimate well-being

This step is essential to understand the possible causes of your disorders or the habits that represent a risk factor and identify the strategy that suits you best.

Phase 3. Delivery of the report and personalized advice

At the end of the evaluation, you will receive a detailed report with:

  • A summary of the main points from your medical history
  • The summary of the visit with the observations made (physical examination)
  • Practical guidelines to immediately improve your perineal well-being
  • Therapeutic advice on supplements, herbal medicine, or other useful strategies
  • Any indication for a personalized rehabilitation program

All the material will be sent to you via email immediately or at most within 2-3 days, so you can review it at your leisure.

How does pelvic floor rehabilitation work?

If the evaluation reveals the need for a rehabilitation path, we will build a personalized path together, based on your needs and goals.

Duration and frequency of perineal health sessions

Each session lasts about 45 minutes
After the evaluation, generally the first rehabilitation session takes place after 2-3 weeks, giving you time to start implementing the advice and therapeutic strategies suggested during the evaluation.

Subsequent sessions are spaced further apart, allowing you time to work independently. So far, most of my patients have needed 5-7 sessions in total, spread over 3 to 6 months. In cases where progress is excellent, the path can extend up to 9 months, with more sporadic sessions.

Why I (almost never) use electromedical devices

Based on my experience and professional choice, I use electromedical devices like Biofeedback, TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) or FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) only in a small percentage of cases. I am trained to use them and have these tools, but I believe it is more important to provide people with skills and resources they can use independently, without relying on a professional or a machine.

Therefore, in most situations, I prefer to adopt an approach based on manual techniques, targeted exercises, and self-treatment education.
I do not demonize the use of electromedical devices: they can be a useful support to accelerate or achieve some specific results, but they cannot replace basic rehabilitation, as also confirmed by scientific studies.

Their role is to enhance the process, but the foundation of rehabilitation occurs through active work on awareness, daily care, and active control of the perineal muscles.

Techniques used during rehabilitation

The sessions are comprehensive and include various techniques to work on the pelvic floor 360°:

  • Manual techniques for muscle relaxation and rebalancing
  • Diaphragmatic breathing exercises to improve core control
  • Functional kinesitherapy exercises aimed at relaxing or strengthening the pelvic floor
  • Pelvic mobilization, posture, and stretching to reduce tension and pain
  • Scar treatment in case of cesarean section or episiotomy or other abdominal surgery (with manipulations, vibrational therapy, and cupping)
  • Vibrational therapy (if indicated)
  • Phytotherapy integration as needed

The role of exercises at home
To achieve concrete results, it is essential to integrate simple exercises to do at home. Don't worry: just 10 minutes a day is enough! If you have doubts or difficulties, we can always adapt the program to your needs.
